Since the early 1970s, the disadvantages of ankle arthrodesis and the excellent results attained by arthroplasty at other human joints have encouraged numerous prosthesis designs also for the ankle. In the following decade, the disappointing results of long-term follow-up clinical studies of the pioneering designs has left ankle arthrodesis as the surgical treatment of choice for these patients. More modern designs have produced better results, contributing to a renewed interest in total ankle arthroplasty over the past decade.

Nearly all designs from pioneers featured two-components; these designs have been categorized as incongruent and congruent, according to the shape of the two articular surfaces. After the early unsatisfactory results of the two-component designs, most of the more recent designs feature three-components, with a polyethylene meniscal bearing interposed between the two metal bone-anchored components. This meniscal bearing should allow full congruence at the articular surfaces in all joint positions in order to minimize wear and deformation of the components.

Poor understanding of the functions of the structures guiding ankle motion in the natural joint (ligaments and articular surfaces), and poor restoration of these functions in the replaced joint may be responsible for the complications and revisions.

The elastics are somewhat hard to figure out, complicated to wrap. Also, the ice pack is made out of water, so neither easy to bend around foot nor comfortable as it's literally ice with plastic against the thin inner layer of mesh. Also water pockets easily thaw, so not long lasting icing (about 20 minutes tops) Works decent if 1) let it thaw for 10 minutes so you can bend the wrap 2) memorize the elastics methodology. Need some improvement on product design

I have always had very rough and calloused heels, and after a while I was desperate that I'd always have yucky feet. My experience with the ped egg has been wonderful! I always use it right after I get out of the shower, and then moisturize with Aquaphor lotion. The one time I tried to use it on dry feet it hurt like hell, so I don't recommend that at all!

The ped egg has become part of my after-shower routine and it is definitely a gadget that I tell all my friends about.

The Ped Egg is essentially a fine grader in an egg shaped container. Much faster than a file, it doesn't hurt, and it's quick to use.

1) Use the Ped Egg to remove calloused dry skin build-up.

2) Consider Zim's Crack Cream to heal dry cracked feet.

The Ped Egg Foot file seems to do the job -- without harming our feet. It is a slow process,though; and the shavings are a little tricky to manage. We think that you should have some sort of "drop cloth" beneath where you are using a Ped Egg. If you don't, then lots of shavings are going on the floor! not sure that we would buy this thing again.

This is an excellent product for the flat-footed. Use their sticky back for a few days, moving the arch support around until you find the perfect place. Then use shoe goo to glue it permanently in place. This has turned my cute slip-on shoes into an orthopedic shoe that I can wear all day, and walk for hours. Works with some sandals, too. It's a solid product, quite stiff, holds it's position and is leather on top.

I bought these to go in a pair of hiking boots. They are rock hard rubber (no give or flexibility) and are very thick. I tried them for 30 seconds, an an hour later my arches still ache. I cannot recommend these to anyone. They get one star because I can't give zero

The massage is very relaxing and soothing. My feet feel great after 10 minutes. I couldn't really tell if the 'heat' worked or not, but I'm leaning toward not. My biggest complaint is that it is made for very small feet. I have 9.5 mens size feet and they are too big for this unit and makes for some discomfort while using.

I ordered this item because I know the name "Dr. Scholl's" and I needed a foot spa. When I got this set up and put my feet in it, the bottom of the spa is covered with HARD plastic nubbies... that I guess you are supposed to get used to, but it is like walking on rocks IMHO. The massage and warming functions work fine, I dont find it overly loud, and otherwise it is a fine product... but the plastic nubs on covering the bottom of the spa are not comfortable to keep your feet on for any length of time. I will probably cover them with a towel or some other softer material to help with my tender feet.

I recieved this item from my husband for Christmas. One month later the heat and vibration feature would not work. Amazon replaced the item immediately. I have had the replacement for three months and it has now started leaking. Not just a small leak- pouring water all over my hardwood floors!!!! I am now trying to return the replacment but the time allowed has expired. Apparently the expiration date was three days before I reveiced the replacement- are you kidding??. I am now stuck with this item that obviously has issues and I cannot receive a refund for it. I am very disappointed in the quality of this product and Amazon. I would expect the "return period" to start AFTER I receive the replacement. This was not one of these products that had problems but two in a four month period.

Yes, I highly recommend this, but I only give it 4 stars. It was not what I was expecting, especially the toe touch massage, and the heater element.

1) The toe touch massage, refers to the fact that you can turn this machine off and on with your toe, via the little yellow button you can see in the picture. I was envisioning, my toes being massaged...?? how? i'm not sure...was looking forward to the surprise...LOL

2) The heater element is only usable for about 10 minutes AT MOST, at any one time, and it is ONLY to keep the water at the same temp you started with, not to increase the temp.

I use this product at least 4 times per week, and love every time I use it, but I was expecting a bit more than I should have been expecting for the price. It is really great all things considered and I can tell I'll have it probably for the rest of my life, so I still rate it very highly. FOUR STARS! I would purchase this product and I have already told several people about this product. Mostly my feet love it after wearing shoes and socks all day, which is probably a little unnatural for our feet to go through...?!?

The massage is actually a vibration (this machine is a vibrator?!? haha), and it actually works really well, and the heater element part isn't THAT DISAPPOINTING, as I can fill the tub with HOT WATER (I mean hot...) and then as it naturally cools down, I can hit the toe touch switch, and keep the water AT THAT TEMP for ten minutes longer, then let it cool down after that...so that is good. I only use it for about 20 to 30 minutes at a time anyways. ALSO, it is super easy to clean and take care of.

PLUS, it's got those nice bumps for under your feet and extra massage attachments that I haven't tried yet, but I'm sure they are cool too...this is a foot spa, that lives up to it's name, just slightly disappointed me when I tried it the first time. From my experience, the heating element will not even truly keep the water warm (it cooled off within 15 minutes with that turned on), and the massage function is extremely loud and doesn't do much good. The one redeeming quality is the reflexology plates on the bottom -- without those, this would be absolutely useless.

you want this product. I wanted to get a support brace for my son, and wasn't sure he would like it. It was difficult to pull all the velcro straps apart and when he tried it on (over a sock), he couldn't even figure out how all the staps went. I wanted to return it, but on the pkg, it says I can't.

I didn't see this anywhere on the advertisement for the product, otherwise, I would not have gotten it, and also, it is so not worth 40.00. It looks very cheaply made.

The heel fit is not exact; however, the product works well. When I have a flare up I put the splint on and wear it for a little while (a couple hours or so), and the pain is alleviated. Sometimes I actually wear it inside my shoe to work because I'm on my feet a lot. It's a bit awkward and throws off my gait a little, but actually helps minimize the pain. Note: Be careful not to over tighten; I learned the hard way that it will cut off your circulation! I would not advise wearing it overnight.

This worked much better than the nighttime product I purchased - I actually felt I could wear this for a pretty long period of time and it did reduce the stress on my foot. I would recommend it to anyone having plantar fasciitis pain. It took a year and a half for my plantar fasciitis to resolve itself though. I injured it on a water slide when my foot struck the bottom of the pool - ouch! Worst pain I have ever encountered - the most important thing is to spend time stretching your foot each morning before you step on it - that is critical to allowing your foot not to retear every morning when you get out of bed. Awful pain!

I had a mild/moderate sprained ankle. I could walk but limped and had very little side to side movement. After a few days it got somewhat better but I needed something to support the ankle. I tried several similar supports from various vendors, but all of them either left part of the ankle exposed, or were too constricting. This brace was nice and easy to get on but pulled snug with the straps and stayed in place for hours.

I have since used this brace playing tennis/racquetball/running and in all of these applications it has provided a nice amount of support and really allowed me to get back into aggressive exercising without worrying about my ankle at all.

The only thing to make sure of is sizing. I have a wide foot, 11 4e. According to the size chart I should have a large. I ordered large and extra large, I couldn't even get the large over the first half of my foot. Anyone with wide feet, add a size so you have room to get this on correctly, it still fits fine.

I have Plantar Fasciitis as well as Type 2 Diabetes and Metatarsalgia. I thought this splint would help and in the morning after the first nights' wear, my foot did feel better. It holds my foot in a somewhat flexed position, but not fully flexed, so it does not provide maximum stretch. The calf strap also does not hold the plastic splint in place, so after wearing it for a bit it begins to slide down my foot. In order to keep it from sliding down my foot and causing the front to slip off my toes, I tighten both the calf and the foot straps. The effect of this is a minimal improvement in the fit (it still slides down) and a resulting numbness across the entire top of my foot. If you have Type 2 Diabetes and are prone to nerve issues like me, you might not want to buy this one. The pressure of the plastic on the top of the foot, while not painful or uncomfortable, is still too much pressure for sensitive nerves.

If you have a mild case of Plantar Fasciitis and no other issues, this may work great for you, assuming you can get it to stay in place. For me, however, I can get the same results without numbness if I sleep on the couch with my foot pressed flat against the arm of the couch.

The first few nights you wear the splint, it may seem bulky and uncomfortable. However, the difference your foot feels in the morning after wearing it versus not wearing it is like night and day. In the beginning, it won't be "pain free" but over time, I've noticed that it really does help, along with taking an NSAID before going to bed. I haven't experienced the problems with it coming off during night as some reviewers state. Also, it takes a few days for you to figure out exactly how to wear this so your toes stay as close to the upper support as possible. My only reason for four stars and not five is that I have a feeling the velcro/strap around the toes/ball of the foot area is going to wear out quickly.

I bought this from a recommendation from a friend that it cured her pf in one week. While I can't say that it has cured mine in one week, I do feel it has helped me. It is easier to get out of bed, first step in the morning does not hurt as much. I am making slow progress toward my pf being resolved. A neighbor told me wearing his orthodics really helped him with his pf so I started wearing my orthodics more often and the pf does seem to be better. I agree completely with the other reviewer. While it advertises good forefoot movement for soccer, it provides very minimal support which is the very reason one would want to wear a brace in the first place. In addition, because the support that wraps underneath your foot is narrower than typical braces, it creates too much of a lift in the heel which results in pain in the arch as pointed out by another reviewer. I wouldn't recommend it if you need real support to prevent an ankle sprain as I do during Volleyball.

I've been using this brace for a few years. I had been using it for running and skating support until i started using much thinner old-school wraps with an ace bandage. I had to stop using it because my arch would kill when I used it with shoes. The straps are as thick as the material around the rest of the brace, creating a thick layer -- it makes your foot look swollen in your shoe. The added thickness made my shoe not fit and my arch suffered from the squeezing.

This material is super duper comfortable but the squeezing negates the awesome of the gel-like comfort.

However. I still use this brace for tae kwon do, which is barefoot. It works extremely well under those circumstances. The adjustable straps allow it to fit my foot juuuust right.

Great for barefoot activity, last resort for shoe-wearing activity.

I had the same experience with this product as some of the other reviewers; it kept slipping off my leg. I'm a smaller person, and the slots for the upper strap were too high, necessitating a very tight wrap that nevertheless kept slipping. (I don't know why the directions tell you where to place the strap, as its position is clearly fixed by the slots.) As there were no other device options that appealed to me, I simply removed the upper strap, reversed it so that the velcro-type material was on the other side, and wrapped it around the device at a lower point of my ankle/calf. Although it took a bit a practice, and I sometimes had to readjust it after wrapping the toe/ball of foot portion, which I also moved slightly, since the original position would have gone past the end of my toes, it worked quite well. My foot feels much better in the morning now, and, as a person who doesn't like my feet covered, I like that this product covers a minimal part of the bottom of the foot. I bought this brace at CVS because it was the only night-splint available for PF and because I already use Futuro braces for my wrists (carpel tunnel) and absolutely love them. Futuro products had always been something I could trust in. Until I bought this brace.

I don't want to rag on Futuro because I have multiple joint issues and I've always been able to trust them with an inexpensive solution, so I was really dissapointed when I bought this foot brace and found that it was practically useless.

The top band kept slipping down my calf and becoming too loose while the bottom strap would slowly slip off of my toes. At first I thought this was a tension issue, but no matter how I tightened the straps, at every which angle, either the brace would slide, my foot wouldn't be braced or, when I finally got it to stay put and hold my foot in the proper position, the straps were so tight they cut off circulation to my toes.

I finally realized the problem was that I did not fall into the "one-size-fits-most" bracket. The brace was too big. I wear between a 6.5 to a 7 (womens) shoe depending on the type of shoe. I asked my roommate, who averages a half size bigger than me, to try the brace and it "mostly" fit, but still had some issues with slipping. I finally gave the brace to my sister, who has PF like me and a shoe size of 8.5, and she likes it alright, except apparently the velcro wears out quickly. (although that might be from my many desperate attempts to get the brace to fit me)

All in all, if you have a shoe size of womans 8 or larger, go ahead and give it a shot. But if you have smaller feet, don't bother. Go with a brace that comes in a smaller size.

I purchased this based off other reviews from a local retailer. I wore it a few times and never felt like it fit right. The plastic is really stiff and it did not curve well to my foot. Even after adjusting it several times it doesn't hold your foot at the right angle. I will say it is much more comfortable than the other night splint I own to wear to bed, but it did not help much. I ended up returning it.

A simple practical product that is efficient for strengthening the arch. Sure, a person can probably achieve the same results by using a towel and scrunching it up with your toes, and then re-positioning the towel, etc. The Archxerciser, though, makes doing this exercise a lot simpler and efficient. My physiotherapist understood immediately the value of this product and immediatelyl took down the information about it.

As some of the other reviews have pointed out, there are other ways to achieve the same effect - like picking up coins or pulling a towel toward you with your toes - but this tool makes the process of strengthening your arch so much easier. I find the archexerciser so useful that I am buying a second one to keep under my desk at work. I had been taking my archexerciser back and forth so that I could use it both at home and at work - it's easy to do exercises with it while working at your computer - but that is a hassle and the price is not too high, so having a second one makes life easier. As others have said, don't expect miracles overnight, but with plantar fasciitis you have to take a broad approach to healing yourself and the archexerciser is certainly a very useful tool in this process.

For plantar fasciitis, strengthening the foot muscles would seem to be a reasonable therapy. But after five days of using this device, my p.f. pain was far worse than it had been previously. The problem was not that I went overboard using the device. I was cautious and followed the directions carefully. And, yes, the pain did decrease to its pre-device level within a week of my stopping.
